JOGL-2.4-rc-20200115-b1500 - Linux Failure/Bug?

Dear JOGL team,

I am using the JOGL-2.4-rc-20200115-b1500 fat jar in my application and it is not working on some Linux distributions with ATI graphics chips.

When trying to initiliaze OpenGL the reported error is:

Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.InternalError: XXX0 profile[2]: GL2 -> profileImpl GL3bc !!! not mapped <-- This is source of my problem.

Previously, I had a similar issue where the workaround seemed to be to start my java APP with

System.setProperty("jogl.disable.openglcore", "true");

but this time, it is not fixing this problem. Are you aware of this issue ? Do you have any suggestion what I can try to solve this?

Hello

Please provide much more information to give us a chance to reproduce this bug, especially the exact hardware in use and the version of Mesa if any. Are you really sure that you use the right fat JAR? This problem looks like a bug I already (painfully) fixed.

Hi Julien,

I have tried different jars:

https://jogamp.org/deployment/v2.4.0-rc-20200115/fat/jogamp-fat.jar

and also the latest one:

https://jogamp.org/deployment/v2.4.0-rc-20200202/fat/jogamp-fat.jar

They work fine in windows and MacOS, no complaints there.

On Linux they both fail on the following systems:

So we tried with:

getMaxProgrammable

and

getMaxProgrammableCore

Both give the same fatal error: java.lang.InternalError: XXX0 profile[2]: GL2 -> profileImpl GL3bc !!! not mapped

Is this the same old problem? Or is there another issue with mesa drivers and ati chipsets?

Oh, and we are running with Oracle JDK 1.8.0_202
