Hi,
I'm new with openGL and I've been having some problems when executing an application that runs 3D cubes with a camera that can turn around them in Lubuntu. During the execution when I turn the camera I don't see how the camera turns around the object, only the starting point and after a few seconds the ending point of having dragged my mouse across the screen. This problem only happens under the Linux OS, in Windows it runs perfectly, at first I thought it might be some driver problems but it seems they are up to date and support 3DHardware acceleration. I've had no problems running other OpenGL application or games and I've been looking around in Ubuntu forums about similar problems withoiut success so I'm a little bit lost with what could be the problem. I know that sometimes "newbies" accidentally use scary terms to describe their problems but I have to avoid people to spread useless confusion. My first person shooter that uses JOGL 2.0 was tested under Lubuntu about 2 months ago on a crappy old laptop and it worked very well. Anyway, we're going to find what's wrong in your case without claiming all Lubuntu users will have the same problem. When I was studying at the university for my bachelor degree, some teachers were too lazy to ensure that OpenGL worked correctly under GNU Linux, therefore they "encouraged" us to do our exercises under Windows... which I refused to do. At first, please can you try our online demos? Do you reproduce this slowdown with them? Then, please can you show me the result of the command glxinfo? Do you reproduce this problem with the latest RC? I think that maybe JOGL picks up the software implementation even though the hardware implementation is available, maybe you just have to modify your source code to fix that by using GLProfile.getMaxFixFunc(true). Maybe something else is wrong in your source code, I can't check that without seeing it.

I've been trying your demos and some run perfectly others simply don't run, the ones that don't work are: - Grand Canyon Demo which doesn't download, I think the link is broken - High Dynamic Range we are obliged to use the provided jar files. About using GLProfile.getMaxFixFunc(true) I do not know where to add this code, I know some of the opengl configuration is made by the teacher. From the code I could paste some of the elements but not all of it, ¿what would you need to see exactly? You're welcome. Thanks. I know some of them don't work on my machine too. You're using the open source driver for the ATI Radeon HD 3650. Does the proprietary driver work better? It's not like you would be planning to use a different API for your homework, you should only use a more recent version of these JARs because the provided ones are a bit outdated. We can't help you if you can't use a more recent version with some other bug fixes. I speak about JOGL and GlueGen, not OpenGL. Put that into your own code, use the returned profile to create a GLCapabilities instance and pass this instance to your GLCanvas. I need to see how you create your canvas and how you handle the rendering. Maybe he has a different hardware, a different driver or a different default profile. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Lubuntu in particular.

This sounds like perhaps you're not redrawing on every mouse move event, or that you're sending too many events and they're clogging the event queue (so the redraw finally happens when the queue clears). |
