As of writing, is jogamp.org not responding for anyone else?

Status update

Source
- Harvey's Applet removal branch locally merged (will be pushed soon)
- Removal of `Security Manager` utilization and its GlueGen wrapper (to be pushed soon)
- One MacOS/AWT fix merged
- Needs more testing

Machines
- Consolidation of 2 test nodes (linux + windows) to one new machine
  - Windows 10 running under kvm/qemu w/ Mesa3D soft (build & test)
    - Simplifies maintenance using qcow2 disk images
  - Native linux x86_64 (builds & test)
  - Linux arm 32 + 64 bit builds
  - Android 64bit builds
  - If working, I may upgrade this node (more cores + ram) to
move other nodes to it (incl. the FreeBSD virtual machine node).

- Server stability (against DoS, ...)
  - cgit patches
  - various fine tuning kernel/apache/..
  - we may need a more powerful machine due to incr load(?)

I've been running locally with my Applet removal patches, happy to put out a test version for the jaamsim community to get a few more miles on the updated version if that is helpful.

For context, my patches were to remove Applet use in NewtCanavsAWT which will fail on Java 26 and later as the Applet classes have been entirely removed, not just deprecated.

I have locally merged your work (accepted of course) - thank you.

One Jenkins run was done w/ the new test node setup
and updated jenkins.

Having done some other maintenance work,
I will see to make the new test nodes behave well
and then push the changes.

EDIT: I also started working on
- removal of the security manager
- probing default GL driver and falling back to software

Heads up: I force pushed jogl 'above' git-sha d808ef2c5aee598b313aa70e91e053608128d8e6,
i.e. redone
- 9a751e063dd6e76cc88878357227f409b9a43f42 Remove deprecated SecurityManager ...
- and merged another unit test related commit.

++++

These days I go through unit testing issues, to have clean or at least known results for
- All w/ MESA llvmpipe software, but MacOS (have to validate)
- All w/ Java 21 or 25
- Linux and FreeBSD is clean again
- Windows still has one failing test
- MacOS still has a few issues

When this is done, I will retest with OpenJDK 27.
Thereafter I will kick of jenkins builds and make a pre-release.

Minor notes:
- Harvey's Applet removal included
- My SecurityManager and AppContect removal included
- Jenkins is updated
- Linux, FreeBSD, Windows nodes run on one new hardware machine
  using qemu/kvm.

Currently I triage a regression on MacOS w/ OpenJDK 21 on Sibo's patch
<https://jogamp.org/cgit/jogl.git/commit/?id=e5bda67ab7296744cf4d4022356802a0c40a3c43>

I have to validate this work on my aarch64 MacOS machine,
as it produced deadlocks in unit tests.

We will push out a new version of jaamsim once the builds land to get some wider testing, thanks a lot for getting the fixes incorporated Sven, we're seeing an increasing number of people using java post-25 in the wild which was generating bug reports for us.

This post was updated on .
Pushed and published update JogAmpPlatforms, re Java version (incl Android) and OS version.

I currently test builds (OpenJDK21) locally w/ OpenJDK 27: Linux, Windows, MacOS.

Edit: OpenJDK 27 test results:
- Linux 0 regressions
- Windows 0 regressions
- MacOS 1 regression to OpenJDK21

Looks good.

Re: Release 2.7.0

Out of curiosity, from the draft platform description, has the minimum version been updated to Java 17? And if so, was there a particular reason to need to move the minimum version forward?

Glad you noted, I intentionally pushed this document for review!

Yes - a proposal at least,
from `Java 8 (class file 52)` to `Java 17 (class file 61)`.

Thought it might be in your (and JaamSim's interest), no?

And if so, was there a particular reason to need to move the minimum version forward?
- Lack of support of earlier versions, or at least its hard to get.

- Easier to validate for proper API/class-version.
Starting w/ Java 17, the versioning test works w/o a JRE jar file, build-in.

- I picked Java 17 (and not Java 21 - last longest running LTS, what I desired),
due to Android compatibility - only capable to work w/ Java 17 API (AFAIK).

Please check the Java versioning table: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_version_history> (Wikipedia)

To all: Please discuss this potential issue and explain if you like to block it
- or perhaps even want to push further ahead w/ the Java version (class-file version and API).

Re: Release 2.7.0

Tested all OK:
- MacOS regressions fixed, tested
- Android >= 14: OK
- Debian 11 Bullseye LTS until 2026-08-31
  - OpenJDK 17 (max version)
  - Xorg
- Debian 12 Bookworm LTS until 2028-06-30
  - OpenJDK 17 (max version)
  - Xorg + Wayland
- And aforementioned current platforms w/ OpenJDK 21 + 27

Hence OpenJDK 17 is the maximum we can use as the minimum requirement.
Debian 11 was released August 14th, 2021,
and we don't support older versions.

So perhaps tomorrow I start the jenkins RC build.

I forced pushed gluegen above e6849f715955797151bfdf6e009fe76918d5e2d7,
to removed ~47MB from repo while bumping android SDK 26 -> 34.
- android-java-src.zip
- android-stripped.jar

See new commit for details how to produce these yourself for IDE development only.
