My issues seem to be Mac OS related. Latest Java 7u45 is OK on 10.7 and later (Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks) (though I do need to upgrade). However Java 6u65 gives the Thread Death failures mentioned.

Gears demo at http://jogamp.org/deployment/jogamp-current/jogl-demos/Gears.jnlp gives the Thread Death exception.

Shadowing demo at http://jogamp.org/deployment/jogamp-current/jogl-demos/HWShadowmapsSimple.jnlp fails with an unsigned resource.
