Thank you for this clarification. It's totally possible to make a separate sub-project for Android specific stuff, there is already java3d-util, there was ardor3d-android several years ago. In my humble opinion, the NEWT stuff not depending on Android should be put into Java3D itself and not into a separate sub-project. Java3DES isn't a good name for something supporting Android, java3d-android is more consistent to me.
