Which bug are you talking about? I don't see a bug about HiDPI in the roadmap for the new maintenance release:

Moreover, JOGL already works with Java 1.9, I provided a workaround, there is only one remaining problem when using JOGL under OS X with Java 1.9. My workaround is unfortunately here to stay.
