I just wanted to post an update.

With the end of the semester and its associated distractions, I was away from programming for a while. Also, several end-users reported my downloadable software working well on their ubuntu systems, so I thought it might be a VirtualBox problem. As I had ordered a new iMac, I decided to set aside some disk space for a proper Linux partition. I have done that, but have not had time to invest in testing things very much.

As it stands now, I will wait for the upcoming release and give everything a try on both the iMac and the dedicated Ubuntu install with the officially released version.
