I downloaded and tested the latest AdoptOpenJDK (now branded as Temurin), OpenJDK 11.0.17.

It behaves the same way as the other Version 11 JDK's, that is, it doesn't work.  The code I'm running is old, almost all Java 6 compatible, and I'm not planning on changing that, so there's no real need to move up to JDK 11 if I don't absolutely have to.
