Thanks for trying to make it work on more macOS versions and happy to learn that dispatch_sync can be replaced.

You can build the .dylib files under Catalina 10.15 with XCode ("gcc --version" returns "12.0.0").
I tried yesterday and it (almost) worked, leading to fat .dylib files.
