You're plain wrong in my humble opinion, I advise you not to do that. You can totally create a small web page with a link to the release section in which your users can download the files easily. Moreover, using a versioning system that way is terribly inefficient and it doesn't help to track the changes. Sorry to be harsh but an experienced developer would probably find your current repository dumb and noobish.

This is my personal opinion but I don't even advise anybody to use Github, some alternatives exist, you could use Git elsewhere, on Gitlab, and move it on your own server later.
